Fresno Unified has scheduled clinics this month and in August for parents to bring their children for immunizations and sports physicals.

All students must meet immunization requirements, and students entering kindergarten and seventh grade must provide proof of updated immunizations.

Immunizations and sports physicals will be offered at Herrera Elementary School’s United Health Care Center, 5090 E. Church Ave., on Thursday and July 23 from 3 to 7 p.m. Sports physicals will be offered 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Gaston Middle School’s Health and Wellness Center, 1120 E. Church Ave., and immunizations will be offered at Gaston on Aug. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Parents should bring their child’s immunization card for immunizations and the form provided by the student’s coach for sports physicals. If no insurance card is provided, sports physicals are $15.

The district’s Health Services Department will provide a free walk-in clinic at Tioga Middle School on Aug. 10 for seventh graders only, and also on Aug. 12, 13, 17, and 19-23 for all students. The hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The clinic will be in Room 35 at the school, 3232 E. Fairmont Ave., and is for Medi-Cal and uninsured students only. Students with private insurance should call their doctor or a pharmacy that administers immunizations.

Required Immunizations for Kindergarten

Students entering kindergarten are required to be up to date on polio, diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus (Dtap), mumps, measles, and rubella (MMR), hepatitis B, and varicella. Incoming seventh graders must show proof of current vaccinations against pertussis (whooping cough) and have a second varicella immunization.

“We invite parents to start thinking now about immunizations required for school and take advantage of clinics at our campuses, or make appointments with their health care provider. By taking care of these necessary immunizations, parents can help their students get a healthy start to the new school year,” Interim Superintendent Misty Her said in a news release.

The first day of school for Fresno Unified students is Monday, Aug. 19.
