A man turned himself in to Fresno police more than a year after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision, authorities said Monday.
Fresno police said officers responded about 8:52 p.m. June 25, 2025, to Ventura Avenue west of F Street after a vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian. The vehicle, described as a red Chevrolet Suburban, fled the scene.
A Bus Rapid Transit camera captured a distant view of the vehicle as it left the area, police said. Investigators used the vehicle description to search an automated license plate reader system, which identified a vehicle matching the one seen in the video.
Detectives then began trying to contact the vehicle’s owner, identified by police as Santana Valdez.
Valdez turned himself in July 3 and was arrested in connection with the collision, police said. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges related to the fatal hit-and-run.
Police did not provide additional information about the pedestrian or the circumstances leading up to the collision.
