Fresno firefighters contained a 30-acre fire Thursday afternoon near Palm and Nees avenues before the flames could reach nearby homes or businesses, according to the Fresno Fire Department.

Multiple callers reported the fire to 911 shortly before 4 p.m. Engine 13 arrived and found the fire burning in the river bottom, prompting firefighters to request a wildland response.

The fire spread through dry grass toward a nearby commercial shopping center and residential area.

Firefighters stopped the fire’s forward progress before it reached any structures, the department said.

A total of 41 Fresno Fire Department personnel responded to the fire, which was contained to about 30 acres.

No injuries were reported in the information released by the department and a cause was not provided.
