Actor Mark Ruffalo is pushing back against Paramount Skydance after the company characterized his criticism of its planned merger with Warner Bros. as antisemitic, NBC News reported.
Ruffalo called the accusation “appalling and fundamentally dishonest” Saturday, saying criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, military technology contracts or executives involved with them is not criticism of Jewish people.
The dispute followed Ruffalo’s sharing of a Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement post about Oracle’s assistance to Israel after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack. Ruffalo also criticized Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, whose son, David Ellison, leads Paramount Skydance.
Paramount said it was “troubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked in purported service of a business dispute.”
Ruffalo has urged opposition to the $111 billion Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, arguing it could reduce competition, eliminate jobs and threaten editorial independence.
The merger remains on hold while a federal judge considers an antitrust lawsuit filed by state attorneys general.
