Two suspects accused in the 2025 killing of a 37-year-old Clovis man have been arrested in Mexico and extradited to California, the Clovis Police Department said.

Antonio Garcia, 40, of Tulare, and Misty Gomez, 32, of Dinuba, were taken into custody Wednesday with assistance from U.S. Marshals, police said. Both suspects are being returned to California and are expected to be booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges related to the homicide.

The arrests stem from the death of Geoffrey Bernardi, who police said was severely beaten shortly after midnight Dec. 18, 2025, near a canal in the area of Barstow and Peach avenues.

Bernardi was taken to a hospital and died less than two days later, according to police. He was later identified as a teacher with the Clovis Unified School District.

Investigators identified Garcia and Gomez as suspects based on evidence, communications between the two and follow-up investigation by detectives, police said. Investigators also determined Gomez was Bernardi’s girlfriend while also being married to Garcia.

Police said technology helped detectives track Garcia and Gomez to Mexico, where they had been hiding for months.

Gomez fled the country with her two young children from previous relationships, according to police. The children had been missing from Dinuba since April and are now in the process of being reunited with family with assistance from Child Protective Services.
