Eleven drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a Fresno DUI checkpoint Saturday night, the Fresno Police Department said Monday.

The checkpoint was held at Cedar and Gettysburg avenues from 9 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities contacted 345 vehicles during the operation. Thirty-four drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended or revoked license.

DUI checkpoint locations are selected based on reported impaired driving-related crashes. Authorities said the primary purpose of checkpoints is to promote public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

Another DUI checkpoint is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29.

Funding for Saturday’s checkpoint was provided by a California Office of Traffic Safety grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
