Clovis Police are continuing their search for the suspect in the shooting death of Caleb Quick, 18, outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Clovis.
During a Friday news conference, police said they are carefully managing the release of information but reassured the public that they are working “tirelessly” on the case.
Clovis Police Chief Curt Fleming said the Crimestoppers reward in the case has been increased to $10,000.
The shooting occurred on April 23 when Clovis police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire near Willow and Nees avenues at around 8:57 p.m.
Police said Quick arrived at the McDonald’s at 8:22 p.m., followed by the suspect 16 minutes later. After briefly entering the restaurant, the suspect left a minute later, possibly in search of a getaway vehicle, they said.
The suspect, described as a light-skinned Hispanic or white male, between 5 foot 10 inches and 6 foot tall, sat at a table for 13 minutes watching Quick before following him out of the restaurant, police said during the news conference.
As Quick walked toward his car, the suspect approached from behind and shot him, police said.
When officers arrived, they found Quick suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The suspect left the scene heading west toward Fresno wearing all black and carrying a handgun, according to police. Police said that the suspect was picked up in a 2024 Tesla Model 3.
Clovis PD said video surveillance confirmed the suspect left the scene before police arrived and began their investigation.
Authorities have described the shooting as a targeted, pre-planned act of violence. However, police said they still do not know the motive.
