The city of Hanford will open a community time capsule that has been displayed in front of the Hanford Police Department since 1976 during a public event Thursday.
The time capsule opening will take place at 5 p.m. at 425 W. Irwin St. in front of the Hanford Police Department. City officials said the event will give residents a chance to view items preserved for nearly five decades and reflect on the people, events and milestones that have shaped the community.
“We appreciate everyone who reached out and shared their excitement about the time capsule,” Hanford City Manager Chris Tavarez said. “The community’s interest reminds us how meaningful this piece of Hanford’s history is. We are pleased to move forward with the opening and invite everyone to join us for this memorable occasion.”
The city said the ceremony will include remarks from officials before the capsule is opened. Residents of all ages are encouraged to attend and take part in the celebration of Hanford’s history and shared heritage.
City officials said the time capsule represents the importance of preserving memories for future generations and serves as a reminder that Hanford’s history belongs to the entire community.
