Fresno State has a boot camp Friday for journalists looking to jump into the deep end of California’s often complicated water issues.
Organizers say the event will provide an “intense” look into the many facets of state water law and politics. The seminar featuring a broad array of water experts will also cover updates on major changes in water rules and laws.

How to Register for Free Seminar

The program’s goal is giving reporters, columnists, editors, and producers of varying experience levels the tools to cover water issues from all sides and accurately inform their audiences.
There is no change to attend, but journalists are asked to sign up in advance at this link.
The seminar begins at 9 a.m. at the Jordan Agricultural Research Center and wraps up at 6 p.m. Lunch and a social hour are provided.

Gov. Newsom’s Water Portfolio Director Will Speak

Nancy Vogel, who directs Gov. Gavin Newsom’s water portfolio program, will speak to the journalists.
Among the other presenters are Fresno State political science professor Thomas Holyoke, Water Education Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Bowles, and Sarge Green, who is associate director for water resources and policy initiatives for the California State University system.
All of the speakers and panel members, as well as the agenda schedule, are at this link.
Covered Topics
Here is a look at the topics:

    • History of California water rights
    • Water storage and conveyance
    • California 2020 water resilience portfolio
    • Upcoming water regulations
    • Sustainable Groundwater Management Act
    • The Politics of Water: Panel discussion with speakers from ag, environmental, urban, and disadvantaged communities.
