Fresno police cited 49 people and towed four vehicles during an enforcement operation targeting street racing and car meets Sunday evening, authorities said.

The Fresno Police Department said its Traffic Unit conducted focused enforcement Aug. 16 at several locations known for car meets and street racing throughout the city.

Traffic officers responded to multiple locations where car-meet and street-racing activity had been reported. Police said officers took enforcement action as needed and the groups quickly dispersed.

Officers stopped 56 vehicles and issued 49 citations, according to the department. Police also reported six state referrals and four misdemeanors. One person was cited in connection with driving under the influence.

Four vehicles were towed, police said.
