Eight drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint in Fresno, authorities said.
The checkpoint was held from 9 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday at Figarden Drive and Bullard Avenue.
Officers contacted 507 vehicles during the checkpoint. Eighteen drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended or revoked license.
DUI checkpoint locations are based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of the checkpoints is to promote public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.
The next DUI checkpoint is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
