A 46-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after authorities said he threatened to kill a woman and fired a gun at her during a domestic incident in Winton, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded about 5:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Cypress Avenue after receiving a report of a domestic incident involving a firearm.
During the investigation, deputies learned Raul Guardado Jr. had threatened to kill the victim and fired a gun at her, the sheriff’s office said. The woman suffered minor injuries from broken glass during the altercation.
Deputies believed Guardado was still armed and had barricaded himself inside a residence. The sheriff’s office SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team and detectives responded to the scene.
SWAT deputies found Guardado inside the residence, where authorities said he continued to refuse commands. A sheriff’s K-9 was deployed and helped deputies take Guardado into custody.
Guardado was treated for minor injuries and booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and making criminal threats, according to the sheriff’s office.
The California Highway Patrol and a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office helicopter assisted during the incident.
