A man rollerblading in the roadway suffered major injuries after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night in Visalia, the Visalia Police Department said in a statement.

Visalia Police officers responded to the collision just before 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and County Center Drive, where they found that a westbound vehicle had hit the man, who had reportedly been rollerblading in both directions of traffic.

The man was transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver remained at the scene, and Visalia’s traffic unit took over over the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the incident, police said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact the Visalia Police Department’s Traffic Unit at (559) 713-4175.
