The Merced County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that they are reviewing a video circulating online that depicts the euthanasia of horses.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office said it is aware of the video and understands concerns expressed by community members. Officials said they appreciate those who brought the matter to their attention.
The sheriff’s office said it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident, including applicable best practices, ethical considerations and accepted industry standards.
According to the statement, veterinary professionals and Animal Services staff were present during the event. Officials said they are gathering relevant information to ensure a thorough and objective review.
The sheriff’s office said it will provide additional information, if appropriate, once the review is complete.
