Martin Yan is a TV cooking legend and he will be in Fresno this weekend.
With the future of Gilroy’s event in doubt, the National Garlic Festival — Friday through Sunday at the Fresno Fairgrounds — is the de facto preeminent gathering honoring the stinking rose.
The event, organized by Pete DeYoung, will include celebrity chefs, a carnival, a beer garden, and the crowning of the National Garlic Queen.
As an added incentive, the festival is offering free garlic ice cream.
Yan will be joined by American chef and reality TV personality Rocco DiSpirito. In addition, actor and TV presenter Mario Lopez of “Saved By the Bell” fame will appear.
Yan is best known for his PBS cooking show — now 1,500 episodes strong — and has earned worldwide acclaim for his Chinese recipes.
Tickets are $10 for seniors, active military, and children; $15 for adults, and $50 for a VIP package.
