An Amazon delivery driver was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly waking up while firefighters were trying to help him, fleeing the scene in his vehicle and crashing following a short police pursuit, authorities said.
Officers with the Visalia Police Department and personnel from Visalia Fire responded around 6:41 p.m. to the area of Modoc Avenue and Leila Street for a report of a man down.
When firefighters arrived, they found the driver passed out and unresponsive inside his vehicle. Fire personnel began checking on him and attempting to provide aid.
The driver then woke up, put the vehicle in gear and drove away, running over fire department equipment as he left the scene, police said.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle near Riggin Avenue and Demaree Street, but the driver failed to yield and continued driving.
The pursuit ended when the driver struck a curb on Crenshaw Street just north of Riggin Avenue, authorities said.
The driver was identified as Daniel Seamons, 46, of Clovis.
He was arrested on suspicion of evading a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence and vandalism.
