Independence Day was one of the busiest days of the year for the Kern County Fire Department, with emergency calls and fire responses increasing during the holiday compared with 2025.

The department said they added 179 firefighters, dispatchers, and support personnel throughout Kern County to help maintain emergency response times during the Fourth of July holiday.

Fire officials said crews responded to 357 emergency incidents on Saturday, a 45% increase from the previous year. The department also responded to 203 fires, up 44%, and handled 1,368 calls to 911, a 38% increase.

Residents submitted 3,500 reports of illegal fireworks through the department’s online reporting system, which officials said helped keep 911 lines available for life-threatening emergencies. The number of illegal fireworks reports decreased from 4,400 in 2025.

The Kern County Fire Department thanked firefighters, dispatchers, support personnel, public safety partners, and community members for helping keep the county safe during the holiday.
