Sometimes, heroes don’t wear capes. Sometimes, they wear headsets.

For Cal Fire dispatcher Alisa Oldag, what began as a frightening 911 call ended with a life saved, a family reunited, and a heartfelt thank-you that brought everything full circle.

On Sept. 15, Teresa faced a terrifying moment when her husband stopped breathing.

She immediately called 911, and emergency responders were dispatched within seconds. But while help was on the way, Teresa wasn’t alone.

On the other end of the phone was Oldag, a Cal Fire communications operator who became Teresa’s lifeline during one of the most difficult moments of her life.

For nearly 15 minutes, Oldag stayed on the line, calmly guiding Teresa through CPR as she worked to keep her husband alive.

When emergency responders arrived, they took over CPR and rushed him to a local hospital.

Then Came the News Everyone Had Been Hoping For

Teresa’s husband survived. And even better, he was back home recovering.

But the story didn’t end there.

Recently, Teresa made a special visit to Cal Fire’s Camino Emergency Command Center, where she finally got to meet the woman whose voice had guided her through those frightening minutes.

This time, there was no emergency, no frantic 911 call, and no race against the clock.

Just an opportunity to say thank you.

For emergency dispatchers, the outcome of a 911 call isn’t always known. They answer, send help, provide instructions, and move on to the next person who needs them.

But this time, Oldag got something special: the chance to learn how the story ended and meet the woman she had helped.

The reunion serves as a reminder that behind every emergency call is a person in need, and behind every reassuring voice is someone ready to help.

And sometimes, the most meaningful thank-you comes from a family that gets to welcome a loved one home.
