Joaquin Arambula joined GV Wire’s Bill McEwen on Monday for an interview on what he would do if he won the Fresno City Council District 3 seat in November.

Arambula fielded questions about his experience in the Assembly, his vision for downtown Fresno, ICE officers, district goals, transparency at City Hall, and his ability to work with others, among other topics.

Since he announced his candidacy, there has been speculation that Arambula would run for mayor in 2028 as Jerry Dyer terms out.

Arambula said that he would serve his full council term if he wins, and also praised Dyer’s performance as mayor.

One of Arambula’s big goals is turbo-charging the Fresno economy and increasing housing. He described Fresno and the Valley as California’s future and said the region needs to position itself to capitalize on its economic potential.

Thomas Declines Forum Invitation

Arambula’s opponent in the Nov. 3 run-off  is Fresno Unified Trustee Keshia Thomas, who declined an invitation to appear on the show.

Arambula and Thomas are competing for the District 3 seat held by the termed-out Miguel Arias, who is running for Fresno Unified trustee.

The district includes southwest Fresno, nearly all of downtown Fresno, Chinatown, and much of the Tower District. Arambula, a Democrat, is the sitting state Assemblymember for the 31st district.
