On Wired Wednesday, GV Wire reporter Edward Smith spoke with KMPH Fox 26 “Great Day” anchor Liz Gonzalez about the California Insurance Commissioner race and the potential impact on premiums.
Two Democrats with significantly different approaches faced off. In the latest tally of votes Wednesday, Jane Kim led Ben Allen, 52% to 48%.
Kim, a former San Francisco County supervisor, calls for more government intervention to rein in insurance companies.
Allen, a state senator, says throwing out the system in favor of a government-run system exposes California to more risk.
Both candidates pushed penalties for insurance companies that delay or underpay payouts. Both also acknowledge that rates may have to increase.
