A 25-year-old man prohibited from possessing firearms was arrested early Thursday after officers responded to a report that an armed person was looking through someone’s tent, Fresno police said.

Officers were dispatched at 2:18 a.m. to the area of Maple and Thomas avenues. The person who reported the incident provided a detailed description of the suspect and his direction of travel, police said.

Responding officers located Miguel Aguilar Yepez on Maple Avenue near the Highway 180 overpass. He was carrying a backpack and dropped it when officers contacted him, according to police.

An officer picked up the backpack and saw a firearm through its open zipper, police said.

Officers determined Aguilar Yepez was prohibited from possessing firearms. He was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on several firearm-related charges, police said.
