Two people suspected of assaulting a victim and stealing their vehicle in Fresno earlier this month were arrested in Stockton after police used automated license plate reader technology to locate them, authorities said.
Fresno police responded about 3:35 p.m. Oct. 2 to the area of East McKinley and North Peach avenues following a report of a strong-arm carjacking.
Police said the suspects assaulted the victim before stealing the vehicle.
Officers used automated license plate reader technology to locate the stolen vehicle, and detectives subsequently identified two suspects, Deshawn Lamar Price, 32, and Praya Briann Smith,24.
Investigators then used the technology to locate a vehicle associated with the suspects, police said.
On Oct. 7, Stockton police located the suspects’ vehicle in their city with the assistance of license plate readers.
Officers arrested Price and Smith and booked them into the San Joaquin County Jail.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office later transported both suspects back to Fresno, authorities said.
