The founder of Fresno County animal rescue Mell’s Mutts says a man who previously received free dog food from her was caught on video stealing a large bag of food from her property.

Mell Garcia said on social media that the man had approached her before asking for dog food, which she provided.

Garcia said she also offered to continue providing food if the man allowed Fresno Humane Animal Center to spay or neuter his dogs.

In a video shared by Garcia, the man is seen walking through her yard, approaching her house, and taking a large bag of dog food.

Garcia told GV Wire that the man had to cross a barbed-wire fence to enter her property. She said she believes the man is unhoused.

Food Supply for Dogs Is Strained

Garcia said thefts and an increase in stray dogs have strained the rescue’s food supply.

Despite the alleged theft, Garcia said she remains willing to help the man care for his dogs.

“I would still help him, it is not the dogs’ fault,” she said. “I am more than willing to help anyone with dog food as long as they get their dogs fixed.”
