Federal agents and police detectives have arrested a woman in a plot to detonate a bomb at the New York state Capitol, three people with knowledge of the matter said Thursday.
Prosecutors from the U.S. attorney’s office in the Northern District of New York were expected to announce charges against the woman Thursday afternoon. Law enforcement officials are planning to hold a news briefing in Albany on Thursday afternoon, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing an ongoing investigation.
The woman was arrested Wednesday, according to the people. It was unclear how far along she was in planning an attack. But two of the three people familiar with the arrest said that the woman — who is American and had been living in the Albany area — had shown ties or pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.
It was not immediately clear if the woman had a lawyer.
