A 25-year-old man was arrested on domestic violence and child neglect charges after Fresno police said he assaulted his girlfriend during a disturbance Tuesday night with two children in the home.
Fresno police officers responded at about 11:14 p.m. Tuesday to a reported domestic violence disturbance, police told GV Wire.
The victim told officers that her boyfriend, Jason Pritchard, had returned home from work and the two began arguing. During the argument, Pritchard pushed her once with both hands in the chest area, according to police.
Pritchard then left the location on foot.
Police later received another call from a neighbor who reported hearing a man and woman arguing. The neighbor heard the woman screaming, “get off me,” and also heard a child screaming, police said.
When officers returned, Pritchard and a child he shares with the victim were at the residence, but officers could not locate the victim or a second child.
Fresno Police Find Broken Items, Blood
Officers found evidence of a disturbance inside the apartment, including broken items and blood, police said. Pritchard had a cut on his left pinky that was bleeding and consistent with the blood found inside the apartment.
The child at the residence was asleep in a bedroom where the door had been broken in half, according to police.
Police said Pritchard refused to cooperate with officers or explain what had happened.
Children Were Uninjured, Police Report
The victim eventually returned to the residence alone and told officers she had taken her 2-year-old child to a friend’s house down the street. Officers checked on both children and determined they were uninjured.
The victim told officers that Pritchard returned after the initial police call and that they began arguing again. During the second argument, Pritchard grabbed her by the neck and pushed her before covering her mouth and nose with his hand, police said.
The woman told officers she bit Pritchard’s pinky to make him release her. The victim said she left the residence with her 2-year-old child to prevent further conflict.
Pritchard was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence and child neglect charges and booked into the Fresno County Jail, police said.
