A suspect was arrested nearly three weeks after a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Fresno, police said.
Fresno police responded about 9:18 p.m. July 1 to a collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle at West Dakota and North Fruit avenues. The motorcyclist was killed, and the driver of a Buick Enclave fled the scene, police said.
Detectives obtained video showing a side view of the vehicle as it left the area. Investigators also received a Crime Stoppers tip identifying a possible suspect.
Detectives linked the suspect to a vehicle and used an automated license plate reader to confirm that the vehicle associated with the driver was the same one seen leaving the crash scene, police said.
During the investigation, a license plate reader alert showed the vehicle was parked at an apartment complex. Detectives located the Buick there and confirmed it was the vehicle involved in the collision, according to police.
After additional investigation and gathering evidence, detectives obtained a Ramey warrant for Jamie McKenzie.
McKenzie was arrested July 20 and booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges related to the fatal hit-and-run, police said.
