State Center Community College District is investigating an alleged brawl between two of its athletic directors on a South Lake Tahoe beach while on school business.
A video circulating on social media apparently shows a fight between Fresno City College Athletic Director Derrick Johnson and Madera Community College interim Athletic Director Jesse White on June 3 while the two were in Lake Tahoe for the California Community College Athletic Association conference.
The video shows White pinning Johnson on the beach before Johnson escapes. The two reengage and stumble about before White strikes Johnson in the head.
A spokesperson with SCCCD said an investigation is underway.
“We are aware of the incident and are investigating in accordance with the District’s board policies and administrative regulations,” the spokesperson said.
FCC Named Johnson AD in 2020, and White Worked Under Him
Fresno City College named Johnson, who came to Fresno by way of New Jersey, as its athletic director in July 2020. Johnson oversees 23 teams across 20 sports — roughly about 480 student athletes over the academic year, according to a 2020 announcement.
White previously worked under Johnson before taking the job at Madera in 2025.
