A dog stranded on a small island in a man-made lake at Fresno’s Roeding Park got a helping hand from firefighters Friday morning after animal control officers called for assistance.

Firefighters from Fresno Fire Department Station 19 responded shortly after 10 a.m. to the park near Playland, where the dog had become stuck on the island.

Luckily for the pup, the crew assigned to Station 19 also serves on Fresno Fire’s Water Rescue Team.

Using one of the park’s boats, firefighters rowed across the lake, reached the island, and safely brought the dog back to shore.

The dog was turned over to the Fresno Animal Center, where officials hope it can be reunited with its owner or adopted into a new home.
