Nestled among orange trees in one of Fresno’s most long-established residential neighborhoods is 4549 North Van Ness Blvd. Since the early 1970s, it’s been the home of former U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Philip Levine and his family. Now, this piece of literary history is for sale, asking $500,000.

Built in the 1920s, it’s one of the original homes in Old Fig Garden and enjoys the gracious property lines that mark Fresno’s early single-family homes.

Shortly after completing a Jones Fellowship at Stanford University, Levine began teaching at Fresno State, where he remained until 1992. His work won wide acclaim throughout his lifetime, including the National Book Award for Poetry in 1980 and 1991 and the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1995.
