A 28-year-old Kerman man has been arrested following a months-long investigation into the sexual assault of a child, police said.
Anthony Hernandez was arrested by detectives with the Kerman Police Department on charges related to the sexual assault of a juvenile female victim, according to a department statement on Friday.
Investigators said Hernandez allegedly used social media platforms to communicate with the victim. During the investigation, detectives also learned Hernandez allegedly posed as a teenager online to communicate with other children.
Based on information gathered during the investigation, detectives believe there may be additional victims in the community who have not reported their experiences to law enforcement.
The Kerman Police Department urged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s online activity, including internet usage and social media applications, and to maintain open communication about online safety. Police said online predators often misrepresent their identities to gain the trust of children and exploit them.
