Two men were arrested on firearm and gang-related charges after police responding to a report of people attempting to start a fight found a gun near their vehicle, authorities said.

Madera police said officers responded during the early morning hours and contacted Daniel Ocampo, 23, and Gerardo Alavez Gomez, 19. Police described both men as known gang associates.

During a search of the area where the men were contacted, police found a firearm on top of a tire of their vehicle, according to the department.

Ocampo and Alavez Gomez were booked on firearm charges, charges related to instigating a fight, and gang-related charges, police said.
