Retired Fresno County Judge Adolfo Corona faces two sexual assault charges, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office said Monday morning.

In a grand jury indictment unsealed Monday, the DA is accusing Corona, 65, of one felony count of sexual penetration by force, fear or duress; and one misdemeanor count of sexual battery, both allegedly taking place March 14 in Fresno County. He faces up to eight years in prison.

Court records show the DA’s office filed its sealed indictment on July 26.

Corona entered a not guilty plea Monday morning in a Fresno County Superior Court room. Joseph Kalashian, a Tulare County retired judge presiding over the case, set bail at $70,000. Corona posted the bail later in the morning.

The victim is only listed as “Jane Doe” in court records. The judge also issued a criminal protective order.

The DA’s office said the next court date is Nov. 14, with a trial tentatively starting Jan. 9.

Corona was appointed to the bench in 2003 by then-Gov. Gray Davis. He won re-election in 2004, 2010, 2016, and 2022, before retiring this past April.
