On Wired Wednesday, GV Wire’s Edward Smith speaks with KMPH Fox 26 “Great Day” anchor Kim Stephens about a massive senior community that will be built north of Fresno near Millerton Lake.
Supervisors approved the project 4-1 on Tuesday, with Brian Pacheco opposed.
Developers said that they overcame water challenges to create a self-sustaining community for older residents who want to recreate outdoors.
Attorney Bryan Wagner, representing Friant Ranch Development, said developers secured substantial water rights to ensure the 2,500 homes and nearly 6 acres of commercial development would have adequate water, even during drought years.
In addition, Wagner said nearly half the property would be preserved as natural habitat.
Only a few minutes from Table Mountain Casino and across the road from Lost Lake Park, Friant Ranch would at full buildout bring 2,500 homes and 250,000 square feet of commercial development, including medical offices, retail, and other amenities to make the development a complete community.
