The San Joaquin River claimed its second victim this month at Skaggs Bridge Park in Kerman when an unidentified man drowned on Sunday afternoon.
In a confusing scene at the popular park, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office dive team found the man at the bottom of the river at about 7 p.m.

Deputies and emergency medical personnel first responded to reports of a possible drowning at about 3:50 p.m. They found a man on the shore needing medical attention, and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. First responders also evaluated a Good Samaritan, who had brought the man to shore and he was found to be OK, sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said.
While at the park, deputies learned about another man who had gone into the river and hadn’t been seen coming out. That’s when the dive team was brought in and the drowning victim’s body was recovered.
Two weeks ago, Ricardo Perez Diaz, 24, of Madera, drowned at the park.
