Clovis police will assign additional officers Monday for a Labor Day enforcement detail targeting drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Clovis Police Department is urging residents to plan ahead for a safe, sober ride home while celebrating the holiday.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sgt. Abby Padgett, the department’s traffic supervisor, said. “Please celebrate Labor Day responsibly.”

Clovis police said drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.

The department also reminded motorists that impairment can come from more than alcohol, including some prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana.
