An adult woman injured in Saturday’s plane crash near Sierra Sky Park died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to three, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday.
Update: The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman who died on Sunday.
Two children were killed in the crash Saturday afternoon, while the woman and an adult man were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The man remained in critical condition Sunday morning.
The single-engine passenger aircraft crashed into a river embankment about 200 yards past the end of the runway at Sierra Sky Park in northwest Fresno. Emergency crews were called to the scene at about 3:45 p.m. Saturday, officials previously told GV Wire.
The crash also knocked out power to approximately 1,700 homes and sparked a small fire that crews quickly extinguished. About 20 law enforcement vehicles and 10 fire engines responded to the scene.
North Central Fire Department led the emergency response with assistance from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Fresno Fire Department, and Fresno Police Department.
The sheriff’s office maintained a safety perimeter around the crash site to preserve the scene for investigators. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are expected to investigate the crash.
Officials have not released the identities or relationships of the four people aboard the aircraft.
