Two people are dead and two others are in critical condition after a plane crashed Saturday near Sierra Sky Park in northwest Fresno, officials said.

About 20 law enforcement vehicles, 10 fire engines, and PG&E were at the scene following the crash.

Fresno City Councilmember Mike Karbassi confirmed the plane crash.

“This is a rare and tragic situation in northwest Fresno,” Karbassi said. “My immediate concern is for the survivors of this heart wrenching situation. At the appropriate time, my office will reach out and ensure they have what they need as they recover.”

Karbassi thanked first responders and City Manager Georgeanne White for responding to the scene and working to save lives.

Officials said two people were killed and two others were in critical condition. No additional information about those involved was immediately available.

The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately known.
