A wildfire burning near the junction of Highway 14 and Highway 178 in Kern County had scorched about 2,000 acres and was 20% contained as of early Friday morning, according to CalFire.

The blaze, called the Canyon Fire, started Thursday and remains active near Ridgecrest, officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire is being managed by the Bureau of Land Management under a unified command structure.

No structures were reported threatened, damaged or destroyed, according to CalFire. Officials also reported no civilian or firefighter injuries or fatalities.
