Some members of the Fresno County Democratic Party want the group to distance itself from local progressive activist Kevin Hall, alleging that he has defamed the party’s endorsed candidates and presented false information, according to the San Joaquin Valley Sun.
A resolution under consideration by the local Democrats at their meeting on Wednesday alleges that Hall has used his position with the progressive Community Alliance newspaper and website to promote racist and Islamophobic rhetoric.
The Sun article also notes that “Hall is an avowed opponent of the state’s oil industry and production, yet Democratic Party officials point to the fact that he has publicly disclosed holding between $30,000 and $300,000 in oil firms.”
Hall’s op-eds also appear from time to time in The Fresno Bee, which doesn’t require him to disclose that he works as a political consultant.
“Be it Further Resolved: The Fresno County Democratic Party will no longer engage with the Community Alliance Newspaper, which includes but is not limited to sharing its content on our online platforms as well as displaying print copies of the Community Alliance Newspaper at the Fresno County Democratic Party Headquarters and events until concerns regarding Kevin Hall are adequately addressed,” the resolution reads in part.
