Five hundred ventilators from California are on the way to the Strategic National Stockpile inventory.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office made the announcement Monday morning.

“California is stepping up to help our fellow Americans in New York and across the country who are being impacted the hardest right now by the COVID-19 pandemic.” – Gov. Newsom

Newsom: California Is Stepping Up

“California is stepping up to help our fellow Americans in New York and across the country who are being impacted the hardest right now by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Newsom said in a news release. “We still have a long road ahead of us in the Golden State – and we’re aggressively preparing for a surge – but we can’t turn our back on Americans whose lives depend on having a ventilator now.
“We’re meeting this moment with compassion. I know that if the tables were turned and we were experiencing a hospital surge, other states would come to our aid and provide ventilators just as we are today.”

State Launches One-Stop Website for Donations, Sales of Essential Medical Supplies

Over the weekend, California launched a website, covid19supplies.ca.gov, to get critical medical supplies to the front lines of California’s fight against COVID-19.
The website allows individuals and companies to donate, sell or offer to manufacture 13 of the most essential medical supplies, including ventilators, N95 respirators, and testing materials.

Valley Senators Assess Governor’s Performance

In response to how rapidly and effectively California is trying to acquire essential items, GV Wire reached out to state senators representing the Valley.

“I applaud the collaboration between President Trump and Gov. Newsom to deliver necessary resources for California.” — State Sen. Andreas Borgeas of Fresno
“We must continue to urge the governor’s administration to be proactive in getting the latest FDA approved technology to effectively treat patients and monitor the spread of the coronavirus,” said state Sen. Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno). “The U.S. hospital ship, USNS Mercy, arrived several days ago in California. Many other states did not receive this type of support from the federal government. I applaud the collaboration between President Trump and Gov. Newsom to deliver necessary resources for California.”
Said state Sen. Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger): “Gov. Newsom and the Office of Emergency Services is doing everything they can to secure supplies and COVID-19 tests that California needs to adequately address this pandemic. My staff and I are in constant contact with statewide leadership and doing what we can to ensure that the Valley receives its fair share. Our office has been working around the clock to address concerns, and we encourage community members to contact us. We are here to serve. The more information we receive from the community, the better we are able to advocate.”
