A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday night after Visalia police said officers found a loaded firearm in his satchel during a downtown foot patrol.

Visalia Police Department patrol officers were walking near Locust and Main streets when they contacted a man sitting inside a vehicle with the door open.

Police identified the man as Cole Howard, 25, who was wearing a cross-body satchel.

During the investigation, officers determined Howard was on active parole, police said. A search of the satchel turned up a loaded firearm.

Howard was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility on a parole violation and weapons-related charges.
