After a difficult stretch that included a serious eye injury and an old broken leg, Willie has proven he is one tough little Chihuahua. Now, the approximately 6-year-old pup is ready for his next adventure: finding a forever family.

Willie is available for adoption through Mell’s Mutts in Fresno, which shared an update saying his injured right eye has stayed in place and continues to heal thanks to the care of his foster family.

The rescue said Willie may have little or no vision in the injured eye, although the extent of any impairment remains unclear.

That has not slowed him down.

Willie was originally found as a stray with his right eye popped out and an old break in his left rear leg that had healed crooked without veterinary care. His eye was put back into place, and despite his crooked leg, his foster family says he walks, jumps, and climbs onto the couch without a problem.

At just 10 pounds, Willie’s foster mom describes him as “10 lbs of love and cuddles.”

He is housebroken and is taken outside four times a day without indoor accidents, according to his foster family. He gets along well with other small dogs, is not reactive toward cats, and does well with his foster family’s 8-year-old granddaughter. His behavior around younger children is unknown.

Willie also enjoys getting out of the house. He walks well on a leash and loves going for walks, with his foster mom saying a home that can provide at least one daily walk would be the best fit.

Road trips should not be much trouble, either.

“He rides perfectly in the car, he just curls up on the passenger seat and naps,” his foster mom said.

After everything Willie has been through, Mell’s Mutts says the resilient little dog is ready to trade his foster home for a permanent one.

“Willie is going to make some lucky person an amazing best friend,” his foster mom said.

Mell’s Mutts is asking people who cannot adopt Willie to share his story in hopes that his future best friend sees him.
