A 14-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly threatening another teenager with a knife during an assault in Coalinga on Friday, police said.

Officers responded about 1:38 p.m. to the 300 block of West Polk Street, where they found a 15-year-old Coalinga resident bleeding from an apparent assault, according to the Coalinga Police Department.

Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital for evaluation.

Investigators determined that one male suspect physically assaulted the victim while a separate 14-year-old boy threatened the victim with a knife, police said.

The suspects fled in a red sedan, and a witness corroborated details of the attack, authorities said.

Officers obtained a first name and photograph of the armed suspect, later identifying him as a 14-year-old Coalinga resident with alleged ties to the Norteño criminal street gang.

Police located the teenager at his residence a short time later, where officers spotted several people in the backyard, including the suspect.

The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Justice Center in Fresno.

He faces a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a weapon, police said.

Officers and detectives searched the residence with the homeowner’s consent but did not recover the knife allegedly used in the incident.
