Southbound Interstate 5 was blocked Wednesday just north of Highway 119, also known as Taft Highway, following a multi-vehicle collision, Caltrans said.

A big rig caught fire in the roadway after the crash, prompting crews to prepare for a full closure of the southbound lanes.

Caltrans said crews were on the way to establish the closure while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and vehicles were cleared from the roadway.

There was no estimated time for reopening.
