Six-month-old Louie has already overcome more than most dogs ever will, and now the playful terrier mix is looking for a family to call his own.

According to Mell’s Mutts, Louie was hit by a train near Shields Avenue in Fresno, leaving him with a broken leg and severe injuries that included skin hanging from the limb. He spent a week at a local animal shelter waiting for help, and with no rescue coming, he was minutes away from being euthanized before Mell’s Mutts stepped in.

Louie’s injured leg was later amputated, making him a tripod. But the rescue said you would hardly know it.

The energetic puppy is described as always happy, eager to play and affectionate with both people and other dogs.

Mell’s Mutts said Louie has shown remarkable resilience and is now ready to find a permanent home where he can continue to thrive.
