Fresno firefighters rescued an injured man Sunday afternoon after he fell from a tree while reportedly trying to rescue a pet cat in the San Joaquin River bottom near Riverside Golf Course.

Firefighters were dispatched just before 3:30 p.m. and found an adult man who had been injured in the fall. Because he was unable to walk out of the river bottom, the Fresno Fire Department requested assistance from its Urban Search and Rescue team.

Firefighters carried the man out of the river bottom, where he was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The fire department said the man’s family was with him when the accident happened and was able to quickly call for help.
