A man was arrested after police said they recovered multiple illegal firearms, ammunition and body armor following a neighborhood disturbance Sunday night.
Officers responded at about 10:04 p.m. to the 1500 block of East Douglas Avenue, where they learned a verbal argument had occurred between neighbors, according to the Visalia Police Department.
Police said Robert Ruiz, 26, allegedly pulled out what appeared to be a shotgun during the dispute and threatened to kill the victims.
After Ruiz was detained, officers conducted a consent search of the residence and found a handgun, numerous rounds of various types of ammunition and body armor inside his bedroom. Investigators also determined Ruiz is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition, police said.
Officers later obtained a search warrant for Ruiz’s vehicle, where they recovered a semi-automatic shotgun and a privately manufactured, or “ghost,” AR-15-style rifle, according to police.
Ruiz was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility on suspicion of making criminal threats, brandishing a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possessing an unserialized firearm, and possessing an assault weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
