Fresno Unified’s Edison High School achieved the second-highest acceptance rate in the state for the UC Berkeley last year.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for their perseverance and dedication to excelling academically and striving for their goals,” said Superintendent Misty Her. “Many of our students must overcome significant barriers, making their commitment to excellence even more impressive. Their achievements are also a testament to the dedication of the Edison staff and the support of their families.”

The most competitive campuses for the fall 2025 application cycle were UCLA with a 9.4% acceptance rate and UC Berkeley with an 11.4% acceptance rate.

Edison High, which was recognized as a California Distinguished School earlier this year, had 21 students accepted to Berkeley last March. This was from a pool of 62 applicants, producing a 34% acceptance rate.

San Francisco’s Mission High School had the highest acceptance rate (45%) to UC Berkeley, with 34 out of its 76 applicants making the cut.

Of the 21 accepted from Edison, 13 students are currently enrolled, according to UC data. Seven of the accepted pupils are Latino and three are Asian, with 20 identifying as female.

The average GPA of applicants was 3.96 and those accepted had an average GPA of 4.19.

In addition to the high acceptance rate at Berkeley, six Edison students were accepted to UCLA for an 11% acceptance rate, 19 students were accepted to UC San Diego for a 37% acceptance rate, 33 students were accepted to UC Davis for a 46% acceptance rate, and 55 students were accepted to UC Merced for a 98% acceptance rate.

Overall, 101 students applied to a UC school with most applicants being women and/or Latino. Those admitted to a UC campus had an average GPA of 3.95.

Other Fresno Unified Schools Strike UC Success

UC acceptance rates for in-state applicants reached the highest level in nearly a decade, increasing over 7%.

More than 77% of California students who applied to one of the 10 UC campuses for fall 2025 were accepted, according to a press release.

In Fresno Unified, 656 students were accepted into at least one UC.

Sunnyside High School saw the highest number of students admitted to at least one UC campus: 116. Overall, 88% of students were accepted. This includes eight students accepted into UCLA and five accepted into UC Berkeley.

Additionally, 90% of Phillip J. Patiño School of Entrepreneurship students who applied for a UC were accepted.

University High School, charted by Fresno Unified, had great success. UCLA accepted nine students, producing a 17% acceptance rate. UC Berkeley accepted 14 students for a 29% acceptance rate.

Fresno Unified continues to emphasize college and career readiness as part of its districtwide Goals and Guardrails. This ensures that more graduates are prepared for postsecondary success, district officials said.
