A Madera woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing her vehicle into a guardrail Tuesday on Road 27, north of Avenue 17, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

The 47-year-old driver was behind the wheel of a black Ford Explorer when authorities said that she veered off the road and struck the guardrail on the east shoulder because she was intoxicated by alcohol.

CHP said that they did not know the speed that the vehicle was going when the crash happened.

There were no other vehicles involved, and the driver, who was not injured, was taken into custody by CHP Madera officers.

The CHP reminds the community that driving under the influence is 100% preventable.
