Two suspects allegedly transporting 43 pounds of methamphetamine and 2.5 pounds of fentanyl have been arrested in Fresno County, state Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a news release on Tuesday.

The arrests of Oakland residents Cristhofer Armando Galvez, 23, and Seidy Aleman Lopez, 33, followed a Thursday, Sept. 21 traffic stop on northbound Interstate 5 at Nees Avenue made by California Highway Patrol officers.

The state Department of Justice said that the suspects were believed to be trying to move the drugs from Oakland to Los Angeles when they were stopped. The drugs were found in various compartments of their vehicle, authorities said.

The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case.

Authorities estimated the street value of the drugs at $601,360.

“Throughout the state, the California Department of Justice and our allied partners are working together to prevent illicit and dangerous drugs from entering our communities,” Bonta said.  “Together we have made hundreds of arrests and seized thousands of pounds of narcotics.

“These arrests and seizures should send a clear message: We will not tolerate the transport and sale of illegal narcotics within California. I want to thank our teams and our law enforcement partners across the state; there are countless lives being saved as a result of their important and difficult work.”

On Sept. 8, CHP officers arrested a Seattle man and seized more than 150 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl-laced pills after a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Shields Avenue in Fresno County. Shields Avenue.
